Norton Rose appoints new partner as Moscow head of dispute resolution

Norton Rose (Central Europe) LLP, the international legal practice, today announced that Yaroslav Klimov joined the Moscow office on 1 January 2011 as the partner in charge of the dispute resolution practice. Yaroslav will head the enlarged Russia/CIS dispute resolution team. The new Moscow dispute resolution team will enhance the practice’s litigation and arbitration capabilities across Russia and the CIS by combining the market-recognised expertise of Yaroslav with that of Norton Rose (Central Europe) LLP.
Yaroslav joins from the Moscow office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, where he was a Counsel and headed the firm's Dispute Resolution Team in Russia. His experience includes general commercial, corporate, regulatory and product liability litigation. He also has significant experience in arbitrations involving ICC, LCIA, ICAC and other arbitration bodies.
Yaroslav’s experience will complement that of the global Norton Rose Group dispute resolution team, which have handled a number of high profile disputes arising out of the Russian market, including the IPOC investigation for the Bermudian Government, as well as Sibir Energy-related litigation.
Deirdre Walker, Group Head of Commercial, Real estate and Disputes, Norton Rose Group said: “Yaroslav will strengthen our dispute resolution presence in Moscow and will increase the competitiveness of Norton Rose LLP’s global dispute resolution practice, which had its best performance last financial year. Russia and the CIS are important markets for global clients in our key strengths, particularly financial services, energy, infrastructure and commodities, and technology. The addition of Yaroslav and our expanded Moscow-based dispute resolution team will enhance our ability to service our clients looking for litigation and arbitration counsel in Russia.”
Valentina Gluhovskaya, senior partner in the Moscow office of Norton Rose (Central Europe) LLP said: “Yaroslav’s arrival will enhance the Moscow based dispute resolution practice. The current team, led by the senior associate Nane Oganesyan has been advising on high profile disputes, including representing DeBeers subsidiary in the high value UNCITRAL proceedings and parallel domestic litigation, and Natsource Asset Management in a series of disputes related to the trade of emission reduction units under the Kyoto Protocol. I strongly believe that being the exceptional litigator, having practiced for more than 14 years, Yaroslav as the head of the Moscow dispute resolution will create the new format of our Russia/CIS dispute resolution team. His broad corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration experience across Russia and CIS is a great asset for our clients.”
Yaroslav Klimov said: "I am delighted to join the Moscow office of Norton Rose Group and look forward to strengthening the practice's global dispute resolution offering in Russia and the CIS. The dispute resolution market demonstrated a high degree of stability during the downturn period and today we can see a growing demand for contentious services across Russia and the CIS for domestic and international clients as well as an increase in the number of Russia-related cross-border disputes. Norton Rose Group is recognised globally for its international business strategy and this ties in with my view of what is required to drive an industry-leading dispute resolution practice in Russia and CIS."
Yaroslav joined Bruckhaus Westrick Stegemann in 1995, qualified in 1996 and has been a member of the Moscow Bar Association since 1997. He is a Russian qualified lawyer who graduated from the International Law Department of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and holds a Doctorate in Law from the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Yaroslav is fluent in Russian, English, German and French.
The appointment of Yaroslav follows on from three other recent lateral partner hires for Norton Rose LLP including:
