Shearman & Sterling, long standing counsel to Brazil's Petrobras, the Brazilian state oil company, is acting as lead counsel to the global coordinators, joint book runners and co-managers on Petrobras' share offering being undertaken in connection with Petrobras' acquisition from the Brazilian government of up to 5 billion barrels of oil from Brazil's presalt layer as described in Petrobras' regulatory filings in Brazil and the United States. The Shearman & Sterling team is led by partners Stuart Fleischmann (New York), Petrobras' long standing underwriters' and lenders counsel, and Robert Ellison (Sao Paulo), assisted by NY-based associate Matias vonBernuth and Sao Paulo based-associates Ana Asby and Fernanda Iacia. Also assisting were NY-based financial regulatory partner Russell Sacks and associate Michael Blankenship, Washington, DC-based tax partner Don Lonczak and Paris-based capital markets partner Sami Tountounji.
