International law firm Reed Smith has announced the appointment of partner Samantha Roberts to its European and Middle East corporate group based in London. Samantha will join the firm on 20th September from Holman Fenwick & Willan LLP (HFW), where she was previously a partner in their corporate, projects & finance department and head of the firm’s ports and terminals industry focus group. Samantha has experience in a wide range of corporate transactions including UK and cross-border M&A and joint venture arrangements. During her 13 years in HFW's London and Singapore offices, she has also developed a specialist interest in commercial agreements and arrangements in both the ports and terminals and the shipping sectors. For clients in the ports and terminals sector, Samantha has negotiated and drafted commercial documents including concession agreements, terminal management agreements, terminal user agreements and facilities agreements. Samantha's transactional shipping experience includes negotiating and drafting shipbuilding contracts and charterparty arrangements. She has represented bidders, acquirers, sellers, targets, joint ventures, service providers, contractors, terminal users, investors, borrowers, concessionaires, managers and shipowners. Samantha has worked on a range of UK and international projects. The majority of the ports and terminals projects she has worked on have been outside the UK, in countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Bahrain, Costa Rica, India, Brazil and China. James Wilkinson, partner and head of Reed Smith’s European and Middle East corporate group, commented: “Samantha is a significant addition to our European and Middle East corporate group. Her expertise will create a strong synergy with our market leading shipping and energy, trade and commodities groups and will greatly enhance our existing offering to clients in these sectors. We’re continuing to expand our capability in this area.” Samantha Roberts commented: “Moving to Reed Smith will offer a great opportunity for me to grow my corporate practice. Having worked in the shipping sector for most of my career, it’s very exciting to be joining a firm with such a strong reputation in the area and I look forward to the possibilities that this presents myself and my clients.”
