Shearman & Sterling is representing Brazil's JBS SA in its plans to create a joint venture with U.S.-based Link Snacks, Inc., whose products are sold in the US as Jack Link's Beef Jerky. The joint venture will operate two meat snack facilities owned by JBS in Brazil. The Brazilian facilities--located in Santo Antonio de Posse and Lins, in the State of Sao Paulo--produce meat snacks that are shipped globally. The joint venture is expected to become operative before the end of this year. In addition to the joint venture, JBS also announced that it has reached an agreement with the same Jack Link’s Beef Jerky group to sell its US-based meat snack plant in Mankato, Minnesota, for an undisclosed sum. This transaction is due to close by the end of this month and is subject to customary closing conditions. JBS is one of the largest beef processors in the world. In 2009, Shearman & Sterling represented JBS in its acquisition of US chicken producer Pilgrim's Pride.
