Global law firm Shearman & Sterling LLP has announced that Creighton Condon, a leading New York mergers & acquisitions partner, will transfer to London to become the firm's European Managing Partner. Condon's move is intended to strengthen cross-border integration of client service, business development and other pan-European practice initiatives, as well as increase transatlantic and global synergies, including the further integration of Shearman & Sterling’s US and European businesses with the firm’s strong Middle East practice. He will also remain actively involved in the firm’s M&A practice, with a focus on existing and new European corporate and financial institution clients, as well as continuing to play a key role in serving his existing clients. Rohan S. Weerasinghe, the New-York based Senior Partner of Shearman & Sterling, said, "We are very excited about Creighton's new role in Europe. As we have seen in Asia, where Matthew Bersani manages the region -- our three China offices, as well as offices in Tokyo and Singapore and our presence in India -- there is great opportunity for increased synergies among our offices. Over the past few years, Europe has become a single market, and the way we operate needs to reflect that.” London Managing Partner Anthony Ward said: "Creighton brings both a global reputation in M&A and a global view of the challenges and opportunities in the legal profession. He has first hand experience working on cross-border European transactions and many of us in London have worked closely with Creighton on a number of matters, including the Royal Bank of Scotland transaction. I know he will provide great leadership here in Europe and will be extremely well received by clients and colleagues in Europe." Condon, the firm’s newly-appointed European Managing Partner, said: "I am looking forward to this new challenge. I know my European colleagues well, and I am very familiar with the opportunities available to us as we continue to work together on cross-border transactions on behalf of our clients. I am particularly excited about the prospects for more transatlantic work for our global clients." In accepting this new role, Condon will remain a member of the firm's four-partner Global Strategy Group and the Policy Committee, the firm’s governing body. "I know that, with his client and management experience, Creighton will hit the ground running,” Weerasinghe said. “He is very familiar with Europe and has a clear vision on the steps we need to take to continue to be successful. Under Creighton’s guidance, I fully expect that we will build on our success in the months and years to come."
