WilmerHale Opens Second German Office with Team of Five Seasoned Partners

WilmerHale today announced the opening of its Frankfurt, Germany office with the arrival of lateral partners Dr. Rüdiger Herrmann, Reinhart Lange, Dr. Christofer Eggers and Dr. Hans-Georg Kamann. They will be joined by Dr. Christian Crones, a corporate partner in WilmerHale’s Berlin office. The arrival of these five preeminent practitioners in the firm’s second German office will bolster its highly regarded international corporate and regulatory practices.
WilmerHale offers clients integrated transactional, regulatory, and litigation services through our network of closely integrated offices spanning three continents. The office will serve existing and future clients in core areas of expertise that WilmerHale offers, particularly corporate, IP, litigation, and antitrust, with an emphasis on clients in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, energy and cleantech sectors. While the firm is already a recognized leader in these practice areas, the expansion will deepen its capabilities in Germany and enable it better to serve the firm’s clients with legal needs in or around Germany’s financial and industrial center.
Four of the five seasoned partners join WilmerHale from Mayer Brown, bringing with them a combined six decades of experience. They will help to open WilmerHale’s Frankfurt office, each as a recognized leader in his respective area of practice.
Dr. Rüdiger Herrmann joins WilmerHale’s exceptional corporate team, with his practice focused on representing national and international clients in corporate transactions, especially in public and private M&A, public offerings, private equity and venture capital transactions, and intellectual property matters. His work also includes strategic alliances, collaborations, licensing and licensing strategies in regulated industries including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, cleantech and renewable energy.
With Reinhart Lange, a recognized leader in trademark and licensing law, the firm significantly strengthens its intellectual property practice in Germany. Lange is a respected litigator whose practice concentrates primarily on IP issues and litigation involving unfair competition.
Dr. Christofer Eggers is among the leading litigation lawyers in Germany. His practice focuses on commercial, regulatory and IP litigation—each of which is among WilmerHale’s core practice areas. WilmerHale’s Litigation/Controversy Department, which includes a renowned London-based International Arbitration Group, will see its capabilities in continental Europe significantly enhanced with Eggers’ wealth of experience.
Dr. Hans-Georg Kamann is an expert in EU regulatory and antitrust law. He adds to the firm’s strength in antitrust and competition law, European state aid law and European constitutional law and regulation—two of WilmerHale’s core practice areas in the US and Europe.
Continuing the firm’s dedicated effort to provide clients with integrated legal services across offices and countries, Dr. Christian Crones—a current WilmerHale Corporate Partner in its Berlin office— will join the team residing in the firm’s new Frankfurt office. His practice focuses on German and international corporate and commercial law, and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
On behalf of WilmerHale’s newly announced Frankfurt team, Reinhart Lange commented that, “With WilmerHale, we have found the perfect platform for our practice to continue to allow us to serve the needs of our clients with the support of a top-notch international, full-service firm.” Rüdiger Herrmann emphasized the match between the experience of the former Mayer Brown partners and WilmerHale, adding that, “WilmerHale has a remarkable track record and industry expertise across practice areas in the pharmaceutical/biotech, life sciences and IT sectors, as well as in the more traditionally regulated industries, such as energy, aviation and telecom. Our transactional practice combines exceptionally well with WilmerHale’s strengths, presenting us with an exciting opportunity.”
“Our expansion into Frankfurt is another significant milestone for our firm,” said William J. Perlstein, Co-Managing Partner of WilmerHale. “When we opened our initial German office in 1993 as the first US firm in Berlin, we were primarily focused on our regulatory practices. Since then, we’ve equally and successfully expanded our corporate and IP practices in Europe. This growth, along with our belief in the importance of the German market and the strength of our German client base, made establishing an office in Frankfurt a logical strategic step.”
