Macfarlanes LLP has advised the M. DuMont Schauberg group on its £135 million acquisition of the German publishing house BV Deutsche Zeitungsholding GmbH, whose newspapers include the Berliner Zeitung, from pan-European media investor Mecom Group plc. Tim Lewis, who led the Macfarlanes team, commented: 'M. DuMont Schauberg, based in Cologne, is one of the largest and oldest publishing houses in Germany, and we are delighted to have advised on this transaction. Our involvement was a function of the seller being London-listed (and, therefore, regulated) and being heavily indebted under an English law financing.' The transaction is subject to approval. Advisers The Macfarlanes team advising M. DuMont Schauberg was led by Tim Lewis (corporate) and Christopher Lawrence (debt finance). Advice in Germany was provided by Oppenhoff & Partner (Gert Dittert and Dr Stephan König).
