Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has represented Huiyuan Juice and its majority shareholders, company chairman Zhu Xinli, Danone and Warburg Pincus, on Coca-Cola’s proposed US$2.4B takeover of Huiyuan. The transaction, rejected yesterday by China’s Ministry of Commerce, would have been the largest foreign takeover of a Chinese company had it proceeded and was seen by investors as the first significant test of China's new anti-monopoly law, implemented last year. The Freshfields team was led by Rob Ashworth, head of corporate - Asia, and supported by Alex Potter, co-head of antitrust, competition and trade – China, Beijing-based corporate partner Chris Wong, counsel Michael Han, senior associate Barbara Jewell, associates Wei Wei Hua and Sascha Dethof, and Hong Kong-based associate Richard Jones.
