New partner promoted in SJ Berwin's Planning and Environment Group

International law firm SJ Berwin has promoted environmental lawyer Angus Evers to the partnership, an appointment which will come into effect on 1 May 2009. As a result, SJ Berwin’s Planning and Environment Group now has three partners. This and 5 other promotions in the firm brings the total number of partners at SJ Berwin to 174.
Evers, who joined SJ Berwin’s Planning and Environment Group in October 2007 specialises in advising on the environmental, health and safety aspects of major infrastructure projects and corporate, banking and real estate transactions. He has particular expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors and has advised clients including operators and developers of power stations, wind farms, (both onshore and offshore,) LNG terminals, ports and underground and undersea gas storage facilities, as well as public sector and government organisations. His work includes drafting and negotiating warranties, indemnities and agreements on environmental liability, and experience in waste management, asbestos management, producer responsibility, emissions trading, renewable energy and carbon capture and storage.
Angus Evers said,” I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to build SJ Berwin’s already strong environmental team. Issues such as climate change and energy are becoming increasingly important to our clients, with new policies and legislation such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment set to create new challenges for a number of sectors.
Jon Vivian, Head of Real Estate at SJ Berwin said, “Since joining us 18 months ago as head of environment, Angus has forged strong links across our different practice areas and international offices, as well as giving additional strength to our highly rated Planning and Environment Group.”
Angus Evers holds a Master’s degree in Environmental law and is a visiting lecturer in Environmental Policy and Law at Brighton University. He is a member of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA) and the Convenor of UKELA’s Waste Working Party.
