Macfarlanes LLP has advised BPP Holdings PLC on its £303.5m takeover by Apollo Global, a joint venture owned by US-based education company Apollo Group and the private equity house Carlyle Group. BPP provides education and training to professionals in the legal, financial and marketing industries. It is sole supplier to the City LPC (Legal Practice Course) consortium, providing training to Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Herbert Smith, Lovells, Norton Rose and Slaughter and May. Apollo Group owns and operates several American educational institutions, including the University of Phoenix. Completion is expected around 31 July, subject to regulatory approval. Tim Lewis, who led the Macfarlanes team, commented: ‘We have had a terrific relationship with the team at BPP, and we are very pleased to have been able to advise the Board on Apollo's bid.’ Advisers The Macfarlanes team was led by Tim Lewis (corporate) and included Rob Collard (share schemes), Luis Martin (corporate), Elliot Thomas (corporate), Claire Pardo (corporate), Ian Shaw (share schemes) and Malcolm Walton (competition). BPP were also advised by Hawkpoint. Apollo were advised by Eversheds (Neil Matthews and Stephen Nash).
