International law firm SJ Berwin’s Planning and Environment Group has completed Section 106 agreements and secured planning consent in relation to two major mixed use schemes: In Reading, the firm acted for St Edward Homes, a joint venture between The Prudential Assurance Company plc and Berkeley Group Holdings plc, in securing consent for GreenPark Village, a scheme comprising 16,000 square metres of B1 commercial and community use accommodation, 737 houses and apartments, a primary school with sports facilities, retail and open space, together with a new railway station on the Basingstoke to Reading line. In Sheffield, the firm acted for The British Land Company plc in securing consent for the River Don District masterplan development, a scheme comprising up to 120,000 square metres of B1 business/employment use accommodation, up to 1,300 residential units, a hotel, retail, leisure, food and drink uses, community facilities and ancillary commercial and non commercial uses. The site adjoins the Meadowhall Centre. Head of SJ Berwin’s Planning and Environment Group Partner Simon Ricketts and Associate Matthew Mainstone advised on both projects. Simon Ricketts commented, “These are two long term, high quality projects, with which we are delighted to be associated, in both cases working alongside planning consultants Drivers Jonas". SJ Berwin's Planning team was ranked in the top 6 in this year's annual Planning magazine survey, with Simon Ricketts ranked as the second most highly-rated planning solicitor in the country.
