Bryan Cave advisers to Begbies Traynor Group Plc in the creation of “the first truly global restructuring resource”

Chicago Partner Donal O’Brien and London Counsel Ian Williams have advised UK-based Begbies Traynor Group Plc (“BTG”) in its joint venture with US-based Mesirow Financial Consulting, LLC. BTG is listed on the Alternative Investment Market at The London Stock Exchange. Ian Williams worked with Begbies Traynor Executive Chairman Ric Traynor to find BTG a US partner. “I know a number of people at Mesirow” said Williams “and realised that they did not have an international presence. I did my homework, arranged for the parties to meet and they hit it off immediately”. The 50:50-owned joint venture is called BTG Mesirow Financial Consulting and will handle all significant cross-border assignments for the two firms. Adding in the Begbies Global Network, a group of independent firms affiliated with Begbies, the joint venture will have access to more than 6,000 professional and support staff in 101 countries, creating what the joint venture partners describe as “the first truly global restructuring resource”. Ric Traynor added, "Begbies Traynor is an established U.K. corporate recovery and restructuring practice, with a network of professionals and support staff worldwide through Begbies Global Network. We are the U.K.'s leading insolvency practice by market share, with an increasing focus on complex restructuring work. For some time, however, we have been seeking to raise our profile in the commercially important U.S. market and the joint venture with Mesirow will facilitate this. Together, we will work with clients on complex, cross-border engagements to develop comprehensive restructuring solutions, which can serve as a solid foundation for future success."
