Watson, Farley & Williams opens a new office in Madrid

International Watson, Farley & Williams ("WFW"), a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that it will be opening an office in Madrid, in response to an increasing demand from clients for access to Spain. This will be WFW’s 12th office, and Spain is the firm’s 9th jurisdiction.
WFW has recruited a team of six lawyers to be led by partners Joaquin Sales and Maria Pilar Garcia together with three assistants. The team will join from the Madrid office of Lovells.
Joaquín Sales is a project finance lawyer with extensive experience in energy and infrastructure projects working for both banks and project sponsors. He will join the International Project and Structured Finance Group and be head of the Madrid office.
Maria Pilar Garcia is a corporate lawyer who has a number of years’ of experience in the energy and LNG sectors. She will join the International Corporate Group and lead the development of the corporate team in Madrid.
Michael Greville, Managing Partner of WFW comments: “For some time we have appreciated that there is an obvious gap in our European network, with Spain being the fourth largest economy in Europe and Madrid a major centre in the renewable energy sector. With the level of work in the renewable energy sector across all of our offices in Europe on the rise, coupled with the need for a corporate finance platform in Spain, the opportunities which we are missing by not having a Spanish practice made this move a strategic imperative. With this new office we are able to offer a pan European service to our clients in our core sectors; in particular we now have finance and corporate expertise in the renewables sector in the largest economies of Europe, including the North Mediterranean countries of Spain, France, Italy, and Greece. WFW is unique among international law firms in this coverage, dedicated to this important and growing sector.”
Joaquín Sales, Head of WFW’s Madrid Office comments: “We are delighted to be part of this exciting project, which in some respects is a start up but in other respects is simply developing in Spain what has proved to become a successful model for WFW in other jurisdictions, following sectors where the firm has strengths to build market leading practices. I am confident that this will prove to be a great move both for my team and for WFW.”
