International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised on the IPOs of China Pacific Insurance and China Longyuan Power Group in Hong Kong, bringing the total number of listings on which it has advised in 2009 to 14. Following these latest two IPOs which took place in December, Freshfields has now advised on each of the five largest IPOs in Hong Kong in 2009, which are also five of the world’s ten largest IPOs for the year, namely: ■Metallurgical Corporation of China - US$5.2bn raised. ■China Minsheng Banking Corp - US$3.9bn raised. ■China Pacific Insurance - US$3.1bn raised. ■China Longyuan Power Group - US$2.6bn raised. ■Sands China - US$2.5bn raised. Six of the IPOs on which Freshfields has advised have each raised more than a billion US dollars. In addition to those listed above, Glorious Property raised US$1.28bn. Background to latest IPOs China Longyuan Power Freshfields has advised the underwriters, led by joint book runners Morgan Stanley and UBS, on the US$2.6bn initial public offering of China Longyuan Power Group, China's largest wind power company. Partners Antony Dapiran and Calvin Lai led the Freshfields team which comprised Richard Wang, Carmen Chau, Xu Feifei, Iris Leung and James Hyre. China Pacific Insurance Freshfields has advised China Pacific Insurance on its US$3.1bn Hong Kong IPO and global offering. China Pacific Insurance is a leading composite insurance group in China. It ranked third in the PRC life insurance market and second in the PRC property and casualty insurance market in terms of gross written premiums. The team was led by partners Kay Ian Ng and Calvin Lai. They were assisted by associates Raymond Ng Zhaoyu Ren, Liu Yumin, Vincent Wang and Iris Leung.
