CMS Hasche Sigle advises Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group and TNT Post Deutschland on setting up Mail Alliance

HIM Holtzbrinck 25 GmbH, a joint venture between TNT Post Deutschland GmbH and the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group, has set up a new business called Mail Alliance. This operational merger of several regional mail companies is intended to serve as an alternative to Deutsche Post AG. A team from CMS Hasche Sigle led by lead partner Dr Maximilian Grub advised HIM Holtzbrinck 25 GmbH on all aspects of establishing the new company. In addition to TNT Post Deutschland GmbH and the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group, other founding companies include Logistic-Mail-Factory (part of the Augsburg-based Pressedruck media group) and Citipost-Verbund. The latter comprises more than 20 publishers in North West Germany, together with the Madsack publishing group. The agreements were signed on 19 January 2010. The idea behind Mail Alliance is to leverage close cooperation between the participating companies to establish a system partnership in the postal market which focuses on business customers. The expertise, networks and IT systems of the 50 or so partners have been integrated and shared quality standards created. As a result, customers can now use their regional mail service provider to send post anywhere in Germany. Mail Alliance is scheduled to commence operations on 25 January.
