Clyde & Co strengthens construction and infrastructure practice through an agreement with Shadbolt LLP

Clyde & Co has reached an agreement with Shadbolt LLP that their London-based construction and infrastructure projects and dispute teams, as well as their Paris office and UK corporate practice, will join Clyde & Co with effect from 1 February 2010. We have also concluded arrangements for the continuation of the Tanzanian joint venture and plan to build on Shadbolt's links and reputation in Romania.

This agreement builds further on Clyde & Co's expansion which has recently seen the firm enter the US, add an associate office in Riyadh and form a strategic alliance with ALMT in India. The move will enable Clyde & Co to offer their clients a strengthened international practice for construction and infrastructure advice across the existing Clyde & Co network as well as now through a joint venture in Tanzania (Dar es Salaam).
A team of eight Shadbolt partners will join Clyde & Co's existing construction experts. The combined team, led by over 20 specialist real estate and construction partners, have a vast amount of experience in the sector and work with a broad cross-section of the construction and infrastructure industry. They will form a leading practice advising on all aspects of construction disputes, including international arbitration, and on the full range of infrastructure projects in the energy, transport and social infrastructure sectors including PPP and PFI transactions as well as international project finance.
Clyde & Co head of construction John Morris said, "The purpose of this move is to strengthen the range and depth of services that we are able to provide to the international construction and infrastructure industry, in particular adding further critical mass to our dispute resolution expertise in London and Paris and expanding our overall projects and corporate capability. We are delighted to have such a distinguished team on board."
Liz Jenkins on behalf of the Shadbolt partners commented, "We are very excited at the prospect of joining a rapidly expanding global firm with such an outstanding reputation. Clyde & Co will provide our clients with further strength in our key practice areas, as well as access to an international network to which we can contribute our great depth of expertise and our business in Africa and relationships in Eastern Europe. We very much look forward to joining the team at Clyde & Co."
Peter Hasson, chief executive of Clyde & Co adds, "We have huge admiration for the firm that Dick Shadbolt, Liz Jenkins and their partners have created and see great synergies between our respective practices and enormous potential for the combined team. The strengthening of our international construction andinfrastructure practice is in line with the firm’s strategy to provide clients with access to an international network of lawyers with unparalleled experience in their sectors.”
As a result of this agreement, the majority of associates and trainees within the relevant areas have individually decided to join Clyde & Co with effect from 1 February. Given the international focus of the Clyde & Co practice, the strengthening of which forms a key driver for this agreement, a number of Shadbolt partners and assistants with a more local focus will be pursuing their careers with other UK-oriented firms.
