CMS issues a comparative study on renewable energy support mechanisms in different European countries

CMS has produced a comparative study on support mechanisms for renewable energy across Europe. The recently published study by the organisation of leading European law firms and tax consultancies analyses the state framework in 20 selected European countries. A key finding is the increasing harmonisation of support measures across Europe.
The study was coordinated by Munir Hassan, partner at CMS Cameron McKenna LLP, and Dr Holger Kraft, partner at CMS Hasche Sigle, who both specialise in renewable energy projects. Holger Kraft: "This guide is an excellent tool for assessing involvement in this segment and provides valuable support for investment decisions." He added that there are still significant differences between individual countries despite a positive trend towards harmonisation.
"The study shows that renewable energy sources remain the focus of strong interest in Europe," says Dr Jochen Lamb, partner at CMS Hasche Sigle and an expert on M&A in this sector.
First published in 2008, the second edition of the English-language study has been further improved in response to widespread demand. It provides a quick overview of the support instruments currently available in each of the countries and will be of particular interest to investors and project developers. Bosnia & Herzegovina and Slovenia are included in the study for the first time
