Dechert boosts German Financial Services Capability with Hire of New Partner

Hans Stamm, Dechert GermanyInternational law firm Dechert LLP announced yesterday that Hans Stamm has joined the firm as a partner in its financial services and investment management group in Munich. Prior to joining Dechert, Hans was a partner in Clifford Chance’s Munich office for almost ten years and in charge of establishing the finance and capital markets practice there in 2000.
"Hans has extensive fund formation experience, not to mention fund-related tax expertise,” said Dechert Chairman Barton J. Winokur. "This will significantly enhance our offering in European fund formation and structured investment products and represents another milestone in our European financial services expansion efforts. Hans’ move follows that of Olivier Dumas, a private fund formation partner in Paris, who joined us in late 2009.”
Hans is both a qualified German lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) and certified tax attorney (Fachanwalt für Steuerrecht), with extensive experience in the fields of fund formation, structured investment products, investment management, capital markets and international tax. He regularly advises investment banks, fund sponsors and institutional investors on legal and tax matters relating to fund structuring, asset management and financial products. He has also recently acquired extensive experience advising clients on the legal and tax aspects of establishing structured investment products (including fund-linked notes and derivatives-based fund products) and private funds, with a focus on alternative investments. Hans was acknowledged as a leading German lawyer for fund formation in the Chambers Europe 2009 directory.
Said Dechert Munich Managing Partner Federico Pappalardo: "There are great synergies between our existing Munich practice and Hans’ and I greatly look forward to him joining us."
Peter Astleford, co-head of Dechert's financial services practice added: “We believe we have a leading financial services practice in the United States and London. The arrival of Hans takes us rather closer to achieving the same level in Europe's largest economy and will nicely complement our existing German and Luxembourg practice.''
Said Hans: "Dechert's strength in the global asset management sector, and in particular in the alternative investment space, means the firm offers a compelling platform both for my clients and for expanding my tax integrated funds and capital markets practice. I am excited to be joining this market leading group, and especially at the prospect of helping grow Dechert’s German and European funds practice.”
