International legal practice Norton Rose LLP has acted for Lloyds Banking Group and BNP Paribas on the project financing of the Hill of Towie Wind Farm project. The lenders have established a portfolio facility to support RES, a leading independent renewable energy project developer, as it seeks to develop and own a pipeline of up to 300MW of wind farm projects in the UK and France. Hill of Towie Wind Farm is a 48MW project and RES’s largest onshore wind project to date. The project will be built and owned by RES using 21 Siemens 2.3MW wind turbines. All the power will be purchased by Scottish Power. Simon Currie, Global Head of Energy at Norton Rose LLP said: “RES are a platinum grade wind farm developer. Lloyds and BNP Paribas are two of the top project finance lenders in this sector. This is the first of many UK wind projects which will be financed in 2010.” The Norton Rose LLP team included partners Simon Currie and Nicholas Pincott, assisted by Hannah Metcalfe, Jessica England, Pascale Vogel and Dan Kaufman.
