Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ:SBUX) today honored the global law firm Baker & McKenzie LLP with its second annual Starbucks Excellence in Diversity Award for 2009. The award, sponsored by the Starbucks Law and Corporate Affairs team, recognizes Baker & McKenzie for its work to strengthen diversity and inclusion – both within the firm and throughout the legal profession. “At Starbucks, diversity is core to who we are – from our partners (employees), to our customers, to the communities we serve. That’s why we want to work with organizations, such as Baker & McKenzie, who share this commitment” said Paula Boggs, executive vice president, Starbucks Law and Corporate Affairs. “We applaud this remarkable firm for its leadership in demonstrating the importance diversity plays in ensuring their clients the best legal representation possible.” Baker & McKenzie has worked with Starbucks since 1993 and has consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top law firms for minority and overall diversity. Among Baker & McKenzie’s most recent honors is the firm’s inclusion in Multicultural Law Magazine’s 2010 Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity, where the firm ranked number 24 on the list. The firm’s diversity efforts in the U.S. include its Career Options Policy and Women’s Initiative, financial support of a wide variety of minority scholarships and diversity organizations, and its hiring of an experienced Director of Diversity. In addition to its U.S. diversity efforts, Baker & McKenzie is one of the world’s truly global law firms, with lawyers across many countries, languages and cultures operating within a collaborative culture to provide the firm’s clients with seamless, well-rounded advice. “We are honored to receive the Excellence in Diversity Award for 2009,” said Dieter Schmitz, the firm’s relationship partner for Starbucks. “Starbucks has been a partner to our global organization for nearly 20 years.” “The Starbucks Excellence in Diversity Award is a testament to the value that our clients place on diversity and inclusion,” added Floyd Mills, Baker & McKenzie’s Director of Diversity. “This is especially gratifying for our firm, which is uniquely positioned to leverage its diversity and provide Starbucks, and all of our clients, with excellent diverse counsel around the world.”
