Eversheds strengthens city finance practice with capital markets and asset based lending hires

International law firm Eversheds has appointed Steven Geerlings and Paul-Michael Rebus in a move to strengthen the firms city banking and finance offering. Steven specialises in Asset Based Lending acting for ABL providers on a Pan European basis. Paul-Michael has established City and international credentials in structured finance, securitisation and international capital markets. Finance as part of the Financial Institutions Sector has been identified as one of the key strategic growth areas for the firm’s City practice over the next few years.
Simon Waller, head of Eversheds Finance Group, commented: “For some time now we have been looking to expand into the areas that Steven and Paul-Michael concentrate on and we are taking this opportunity to invest in two high calibre individuals who will complement a strong existing team. This recruitment is part of our strategy to deliver growth in key areas in our City and International practice”.
Steven previously worked at Hammonds where he was part of the corporate strategy and finance law team, and in-house at Cedelbank as senior legal counsel and Director of Legal Affairs Europe at GE Commercial Distribution Finance Europe Ltd.
Steven said: “Joining Eversheds allows me to be part of a high performance team with a clear vision, and gives me access to an exceptional combination of quality city clients as well as genuine international opportunities.”
Paul-Michael is recognised as a leading individual by both Chambers and Legal 500 and has been responsible for building teams that were recognised as one of the top securitisation and structured finance teams in the UK. Paul-Michael joins the firm from McDermott Will & Emery where he was Group Head.
Paul-Michael said: “I was attracted to the firm's existing client base which is complementary to my own and to its vision and ambition for its City and International finance practice.”
