Law firm SJ Berwin has moved up in this year’s Planning Magazine survey of planning solicitors to fifth most highly rated firm in the country. The firm is ranked third overall for residential and mixed use work, fourth for retail and fifth for infrastructure. In terms of individuals, Head of Department Simon Ricketts was ranked first in the rankings of most highly rated planning solicitors (last year’s placing was 2nd). Fellow planning partner, Duncan Field, is also higher up the rankings - up to 11th position (from 28th equal last year). The annual Planning Magazine survey is based on questionnaire returns from over a hundred planning solicitors and barristers and is considered the most authoritative survey of this market place. Head of Real Estate Division, Jon Vivian said: “A fantastic achievement both individually for Simon and Duncan and also for the team. We are confident we have one of the strongest practices in the market, which is a key part of our overall real estate offering.” SJ Berwin’s planning team advises on a wide range of planning, highways and compulsory purchase law issues. Chambers 2010 guide to the legal profession refers to its “substantial experience in contentious and non-contentious work” and “a practice that is well-rounded, wide ranging and prestigious, providing client- friendly, timely, authoritative, commercial and pragmatic advice.”
