NOTICIAS/ NEWS DEALS - OPERACIONES published June 21, 2010 Reed Smith advises British airline Eastern Airways on its first hub in France International law firm Reed Smith has advised, British regional airline, Eastern Airways on the establishment of its first French hub, Dijon-Bourgogne. As part of this new venture, Eastern Airways (which carries 600,000 passengers each year) successfully negotiated with the Regional Council of Bourgogne, the General Council of Côte-d’Or, Grand-Dijon and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry start-up subsidies of 2.3 million Euros. The Regional Council of Bourgogne is financing an investment aid of 500,000 Euros and a fund for growth of 345,000 Euros. The first flights are due to take off from Dijon at the end of August 2010. Pursuant to European Guidelines published in December 2005, which set out the conditions under which start-up aids may be granted to airlines establishing themselves in regional airports, the various agreements were signed following notification to and approval by the European Commission. This procedure represents a first in France. The Reed Smith team in London was led by Peter Alfandary (partner) and in Paris by Benoît Charot (partner) and Daniel Kadar (associate). Peter Alfandary, Reed Smith partner, commented: "This is yet another excellent example of on going Anglo-French cooperation, which the firm is proud to have been involved with for over 25 years."
