NOTICIAS/ NEWS DEALS - OPERACIONES published June 23, 2010 SJ Berwin advises Schroders' Columbus Fund and Chester Properties' joint venture on its first acquisition International law firm SJ Berwin has advised on a joint venture between Schroders’ Columbus Fund and Chester Properties to acquire the Brandon Shopping Centre, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. A term loan facility totalling up to £22.5 million was made available to a newly-formed joint venture vehicle, Motherwell Investment L.P. in order to acquire the property. SJ Berwin’s corporate real estate team advised on the joint venture and finance related elements of the transaction led by associate Steven Cowins, assisted by Marc Snell and Alex Daltrey. Neil Darling of Biggart Baillie LLP acted on the property aspects of the deal (Scottish law) and Ross Caldwell and Neil Sargent of Dundas & Wilson LLP advised Santander as lender. This is the first acquisition by the Columbus real estate fund, which closed in February 2010.
